A form that itemizes the costs incurred by both buyer and seller to settle a real estate transaction. Both parties sign the form when the transaction is completed.

The HUD-1, also known as a "settlement statement," is printed by the Department of Housing and Urban development. An updated form will be published in 2010, which encourages consumers to shop and compare costs for real estate settlement services.  See a current HUD-1
